Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; for it becomes your destiny. -- Upanishads

      Nutritional Tip: Importance of Calcium

      Nutritional Tip: Importance of Calcium

It amazes me how many people I meet who aren’t getting enough Calcium in their diet. Calcium is a very important part of a healthy diet for maintenance of healthy bones and teeth, and prevention of osteoporosis. Our bodies need calcium whether we supply them with it or not. Unfortunately, if we don’t get enough, our bodies take calcium from the next best source – our bones, which we can not restore and can result in osteoporosis later in life. Post-menopausal women are at a higher risk for developing osteoporosis as their estrogen levels decrease. Weight-bearing exercise also assists in the maintenance of bone density . The Recommended Daily Intake for Calcium is 1000mg/day for adult men and women aged 19-50, and 1300mg/day for adolescent girls and women over 50.Kalev
