Students
As yoga teachers it is our goal to inspire our students to work hard and reconnect with themselves on a deeper level. We would like to honour the students who inspire us and everyone else around them.
Anthony took his first class at WHY on July 14th 2008 and he practices yoga almost every day, oftentimes twice a day-- a hot yoga class followed with a yin yoga class is his favourite yoga combo! In almost 3 months, Anthony's hard work has paid off as if evident by his increased flexibility, balance and strength. We can always depend on Anthony to make us laugh after class. He reminds us all never to take ourselves too seriously. Camille aksed him a few questions about how yoga has changed his life.
What inspired you to start your yoga practice?
I was guided there and have always been active in sports. Yoga represents a true understanding of self.
With no belt, no race, and no pressure to achieve, the astonishing thing about W.H.Y is you get all those things anyway. This means trough practice you achieve. You win the race you welcome the pressure. You learn to "Breath and let it all go".
WHY do you keep coming to W.H.Y?
W.H.Y is nice. The facilities are top notch, and there is an undeniable warmth and acceptance extended toward you as soon as you walk in. I found, for myself, that the world and all that is going on really does not enter my thoughts for at least 90 min. I notice it every time I walk through the front door. It is like walking into another time, another era.....The teachers are at the peak of their instructions; they guide and lead you, so you can reach your savasanas.
If you could switch roles and teach the class, what words of wisdom would you have for new students?
I would say 'Walking into this environment is a new way of loving your neighbor."
A great man stood on the steps and said he had a dream, when you look around you see that in Yoga, old, young, black, white, and every walk of life are all there for a purpose: to listen to the wisdom of Yoga. Not only is W.H.Y a form of excelsior boiling through and out your whole body, but I also believe it will heal the world....'
